Rules to Note: Wearing Military Dress in Public

Often people of the military can be seen wearing their formal dress uniforms to commemorate the special occasions like the 4th of July, a marriage, burial etc as the bullion embroidery and the smart uniform is impressive and calls for a special occasion to be worn. If you are retired military personnel, then there are a few courtesies and rules you are expected to follow to respect your uniform and your former profession. Listed below are a few of them.A veteran is only allowed to wear their uniforms on formal and occasions. The person is allowed only to wear a Service Dress uniform and not the Battle dress uniform or PT Uniform. It is prohibited to wear the uniform at Anti-Government Events, which are demonstrating against or opposed to the government.Political rallies or events should not be a place where the uniform is worn, be it a private event or a commercial event to prevent misunderstanding of the official approval of the event or activity.Participating in public speeches or any other interactions that are public and will be picked up by the media and an audience requires special permission to speak at such events. The court is another place where the uniform cannot be worn, which for any reason stands to bring discredit to the armed forces.
In every case, retirees and veterans can wear the military dress and insignia that is used right now or the dress and insignia used at the time of retirement, but the two have to be kept entirely separate and should not be mixed. The sash belt of one should not be mixed with the uniform of the other.
